Fully-funded three-year PhD studentship in Novel Energy Conversion SystemsUniversity of Lincoln, UK
School of Engineering at University of Lincoln invites applications for a fully-funded full-time PhD studentship for three-year duration to study industrial two-phase flow, particularly the gas liquid two-phase flow, which is found widely in a whole range of industrial applications, including boilers, sustainable energy conversion systems, air conditioning and ventilations for building heat and cooling integration and refrigeration. This three-year PhD project aims to develop innovative technical solution to predict and modulate the two-phase flow heat transfer profile of thermo-fluid in novelty energy conversion systems and study system energy control performance by applying advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique and multi-physics approach. New numerical techniques will be developed to facilitate the system design process, thus further improve the energy efficiency of the system.
The applicants should have an honour degree (minimum 2.1) or a Master degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences, and be able to demonstrate strong mathematical and analytical skills. An understanding of CFD modelling techniques and cross-disciplinary skills are also required. Applicants are also expected to have some experiences to use engineering flow simulation software, such as ANSYS Fluent and/or COMSOL. Additional knowledge in using OpenFOAM will be advantage, but not essential. The student will have opportunities to spend some time at an international well-known industry in the UK as part of his/her industry secondment during the program.
This three-year studentship will cover full tuition fees, plus a tax-free stipend of min £12000 per annum, and is open for both UK/EU and overseas applicants.
