Since the LBM is a low-order finite-difference method (2nd order in fact), it is thus not too efficient for acoustics, which prefers high-order methods (for good reasons). The LBM can be used to simulate heat transfer.
The LBM is also low-dissipation, which helps.
In CFD, the question ought to be asked is usually not whether, but how efficient.
