The Coandă effect is a result of entrainment of ambient fluid around the fluid jet. When a nearby wall does not allow the surrounding fluid to be pulled inwards towards the jet (i.e., to be entrained), the jet moves towards the wall instead.

射流都有把周围流体向射流中心吸的作用。如果傍边是个壁面，那么射流就只好向壁面靠。如果壁面是个弧形，那么射流就会转弯。更深一层的机理，那就是粘性的存在。所以如果壁面转弯太急，射流就会跟壁面分离。

Theodore von Kármán named it the Coandă effect.
