Flow through porous media is one of the most successful applications of the LB method, if not the most successful one. However, one must watch out some pitfalls. The most common error in literature is using the lattice BGK model, which CANNOT accurately realize the no-slip boundary conditions; and the no-slip boundary conditions are the most crucial component in flows through porous media.
The most important work in this field, in my view, is done by I. Ginzburg et al. The problem is, the papers by Ginzburg are usually hard to read. However, if you can go through one of them and understand it thoroughly, you will be able to master the LB techniques.
One serious problem in scientific research is that there is too much information (or pollution of information), and too little discrimination of information. To pose information is useful, but it's not necessary now-a-days for it is ready available online. It would be much better to share some research experiences here.
