The research work is related to theoretical, computational and experimental geomechanics of Thermo-Hydro-Mechanical-Chemical (THMC) processes in geomaterials and synthetic materials associated with the following themes:
Geologic sequestration of greenhouse gases with specific reference to chemically-induced alteration of mechanical and transport properties
Mechanically-induced permeability evolution in heterogeneous porous media with applications to argillaceous limestone - AE tomography
Poro-Hyperelasticity of soft tissues and porous fluid-filled rubber-like cellular materials.

Interested applicants should have experience in continuum geomechanics and have theexpertise to conduct computational and experimental research. They should indicate to Professor A.P.S. Selvadurai their interest in the positions but should:
(i) be aware of the program and admission requirements indicated in the following web sites: http://www.mcgill.ca/civil/grad,http://www.mcgill.ca/civil/grad/admissions and
(ii) must submit a formal on-line application through the web site: http://www.mcgill.ca/gradapplicants/apply/ready
The applications will be evaluated by the Department for admission to the doctoral program in Civil Engineering and Applied Mechanics and eligibility for consideration for McGill Engineering Doctoral Awards (MEDA). Potential Graduate students who hold national/international scholarships and awards to pursue doctoral studies are encouraged to apply. Demonstrated research ability in terms of publications in germane peer-reviewed International Journals is considered essential. The appointments are scheduled to commence in September 2016 but highly qualified candidates could be considered for appointments in January 2016. The Environmental Geomechanics Research group at McGill has a laboratory dedicated to conduct experimental research and has recently acquired a state-of-the-art facility for conducting high pressure triaxial testing and acoustic emission monitoring of large geomaterial specimens.
