Update on Publication of the Proceedings of the Combustion Institute
The preparation of the Proceedings Volume 31 is now well underway and on track for distribution of the volumes in January 2007. The purpose of this note is to alert you to some recent developments.
1.It has been decided by the Board to publish the Proceedings with the
imprint year 2007, meaning that 2007 is the year used in citation of papers from the Proceedings. We will continue to use the odd-numbered post-Symposium year into the future.
You will recall that Volume 30 of the Proceedings was mistakenly published with an imprint year of 2005 which was out of cycle with previous even-year publication dates. The decision to remain now with the odd years has to do with the way the Proceedings are ranked according to Impact Factor and Immediacy Index. By using the 2007 imprint year, we will have the Proceedings available for citation for a full year before the 2008 Impact Factor  and Immediacy Index are published – by contrast, publication in 2006 leaves no opportunity for 2006 citations (very low Immediacy Index) and very little opportunity for 2007 citations (low Impact Factor).
These differences are significant to the ranking of the Proceedings and to the esteem of publications in them. The Board is of the opinion that we should maximise these if the change does not involve any delay in the actual production of the volumes. You may therefore rest assured that publication date of the Proceedings will always be as soon as possible after the Symposium, late in that year or early in the following year as is currently planned for Volume 31.
2.Corrected proofs of 31st Combustion Symposium papers are being made
available online from Science Direct at the following URL under Articles
in Press: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/journal/15407489
3.These correct proofs do not yet include comments or replies, and
supplementary material is not yet properly identified by captions.
4.The most recently added proofs (Sep 15 and after) show 2007 as the
publication year.  All papers will show 2007 in the final versions.
5.Until page ranges become available, these articles in press may be
cited using the doi (digital object identifier) for each paper, as in the example below.

6.Please be sure to use 2007 as the publication year for all references
to Volume 31 of the Proceedings. Not only is this the correct date, but
using it will ensure that your citations are crosslinked in journal
search engines and that your citations count towards the calculation of
quantities such as the Impact Factor.
