These large fluctuations are due to the large eddies generated in the downstream part of the boundary which result in altenative local thichening or thinning of the thermal boundary layer.There large eddies also result in an efficient mixing of the outer region of the boundary layer and to enhanced fluid transport from the downstream part to the corresponding facing upstream part of the opposite boundary layer.
