ASME 6TH INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM
FSI, AE & FIV+N
FLUID-STRUCTURE INTERACTIONS, AEROELASTICITY,
FLOW-INDUCED VIBRATION & NOISE
at the PVP-Division Summer Meeting
23-27 July 2006, Vancouver, BC, Canada

This is the sequel to the successful 1984, 1988, 1992, 1997 and 2002 Symposia, some co-sponsored by JSME, IMechE, CSME, IAHR and AFM. All have been sponsored jointly by the ASME Divisions of Applied Mechanics, Fluids Engineering, Heat Transfer, Noise Control & Acoustics, Nuclear Engineering, and Pressure Vessels & Piping; the last two also by the Aerospace Division.
All previous symposia were held within the ASME Winter Annual Meeting (recently renamed IMECE).  It was found, however, that the competition for space and session-slots was too fierce at IMECE to allow for a reasonable and logical sequencing and concentration of sessions; the very large attendance at IMECE also militated against optimal informal exchanges between delegates.  It was therefore decided to hold the Symposium within one of the Summer Meetings. This one is within the PVP Division';s Summer Meeting, but the next one might well be with the Fluid Engineering Division';s (which, in fact, was a close contender for this one).  Also, this marks the first occasion that the Symposium will be held outside the USA. Nevertheless, nothing else changes — and this is all to the good, since from the technical viewpoint all previous Symposia were very successful.
Papers in the general areas of fluid-structure and fluid-sound interactions, aero-elasticity, hydroelasticity, flow excitation and flow-induced vibrations and noise, and unsteady fluid dynamics related to FSI are invited — both fundamental papers, with no particular applications, and papers related to or inspired by specific systems in aerospace, mechanical and naval engineering. Theoretical, experimental and computational papers are equally welcome.  Conference Proceedings will be published.

•Dynamics of submerged elastic/viscoelastic structures

•Bluff-body/near wake interactions
