BURLINGTON, Massachusetts, August 24, 2012. At 9am this morning, SoftInWay Inc., releases a new free edition of the well-known AxSTREAM, named “AxSTREAM Lite”. This is a completely free software, made specifically for engineering students.

AxSTREAM Lite is meant to be open and accessible to all students who are studying Turbomachinery and aspire to deepen their understanding of fundamentals of turbine design and analysis. SoftInWay also launched a user forum where engineering students can collaborate, discuss and provide mutual support.

AxSTREAM Lite – Free AxSTREAM edition for Students Everywhere!


AxSTREAM Lite provides basic functionality for preliminary design and meanline analysis of Axial Turbines. Preliminary design in AxSTREAM Lite is equipped with the full version of the Solution Generator based on AxSTREAM Inverse Solver and coupled with the highly effective LPT Random Search engine. AxSTREAM Lite also offers an elaborate Design Space Explorer tool, which is useful for analyzing the generated solution set from numerous perspectives.

AxSTREAM Preliminary Design is a highly esteemed feature with our corporate customers and has been named the “may be best” in the industry.

Students and others who will use AxSTREAM Lite will be provided with the full functionality of the Preliminary Design Modules.

AxSTREAM Lite also has a functional Meanline Solver allowing to solve analysis tasks in different formulations – with mass flow rate definition for fixed inlet/outlet pressure, inlet pressure definition for fixed mass flow rate and unique task of define exit flow angles for fixed flow rate and pressure. The AxSTREAM Lite Meanline Solver is also coupled with an effective multi-point calculation tool that allow for building a variety of turbine performance maps.

AxSTREAM Lite provides extended tables and charts for presentation of calculation results. There are also special options, which allow the users to save and compare the results of different solver runs.

Being a free tool, AxSTREAM Lite has certain constraints to limits commercial use. Because of this, it uses ideal gas with predefined properties and the maximum number of stages is limited to 5.

Nevertheless, AxSTREAM Lite provides a great opportunity to learn and understand turbine design fundamentals and gives the students the fundamental knowledge and experience needed to easily migrate to full educational and commercial versions.
