Topic for a PhD candidate: Measurements of the turbulent consumption speed
Details of the project:
A new definition for turbulent consumption speed has been recently proposed (Combustion and Flame 2008 April) for premixed flames. It is planned to conduct a series of measurements on a new design of low swirl burner. The burner is constructed to operate at a wide range of turbulence intensity and with well-defined boundary and initial conditions suitable for numerical simulations. A stereo-PIV system (purchased in 2008 April) is available for velocity measurements and measurements of the turbulent consumption speed. The candidate is required to perform detailed measurements as well as numerical simulations using different combustion models based on currently available empirical formula of turbulent burning velocity. Joint internatrional collaborations with IFS, Tohoku Uni, Japan and Institute of Aerospace Studies, Toronto Uni, Canada may also require the candidate to travel overseas for 2 to 3 months during study. |
